Tính đến ngày 1 tháng 9, ở Nhật Bản có 95.119 người trên 100 tuổi, tăng 2.980 so với năm ngoái. Trong số những người trên trăm tuổi có 83.958 phụ nữ, chiếm khoảng 88%; có 11.161 nam giới.
Người sống lâu nhất ở Nhật Bản là bà Tomiko Itooka, năm nay 116 tuổi, sống tại thành phố Ashiya, tỉnh Hyogo. Người đàn ông lớn tuổi nhất là Mizuno Kiyotaka, 110 tuổi và sống ở thành phố Iwata, tỉnh Shizuoka.
Từ góc độ quốc gia, Nhật Bản có 76,49 người trăm tuổi trên 100.000 người. Tỉnh Shimane là vùng có tỷ lệ người trên 100 tuổi cao nhất trong 12 năm liên tiếp, với 159,54 người trên 100.000 dân; tỉnh Saitama có tỷ lệ thấp nhất với 45,81 người.
Dữ liệu cũng cho thấy vào năm 2023, tuổi thọ trung bình của phụ nữ Nhật Bản sẽ là 87,14 tuổi và của nam giới là 81,09 tuổi .
Nhật Bản bắt đầu cuộc khảo sát này vào năm 1963, khi đó chỉ có 153 người sống trên trăm tuổi ở Nhật Bản.
